Teacher's Day

A Teacher's Prayer

by James J. Metcalf

I want to teach my students how--
To live this life on earth,
To face its struggles and its strife
And to improve their worth.

Not just the lesson in a book,
Or how the rivers flow,
But to choose the proper path,
Wherever they may go.

To understand eternal truth,
And know right from wrong,
And gather all the beauty of
A flower and a song,

For if I help the world to grow
In wisdom and grace,
Then I feel that I have won
And I have filled my place.

And so I ask your guidance, God
That I may do my part,
For character and confidence
And happiness of heart.
Happy Teacher's Day to all teachers out there. =)

God is great!

Just when I thought that the Korean hostages were forgotten after the release of 2 hostages, I saw the news today and my heart leaped with joy.

Taliban say South Korean hostages to be freed "soon"

Indeed, praise God that this thing has come to an end. I can imagine the relief and joy the relatives and friends of these hostages are feeling.

Until the Korean hostages are released, I will be praying that the Talibans will keep to their word.

Thanks Jia Hui for putting up the song on ur blog. It is indeed a beautiful and comforting song.

So you would come

SO YOU WOULD COME

Before the world began
You were on His mind
And every tear you cry
Is precious in His eyes
Because of His great love
He gave His only Son
Everything was done
So you would come
Nothing you can do
Could make Him love you more
And nothing that you've done
Could make Him close the door
Because of His great love
He gave His only Son
Everything was done
So you would come

Come to the Father
Though your gift is small
Broken hearts, broken lives
He will take them all
The power of the Word
The power of His blood
Everything was done
So you would come

Convo 2007

It's been more than a month since my convo took place. To me, it was a significant milestone of my life. I am thankful that I am able to graduate despite all the odds that were stacked against me. Indeed, all praise be to God who was the One who sustained me with his grace and unveiled to me my purpose in life during my university days... =)

With my parents. =)

With dear sister Joanne! =)

With fellow BSc pals: Ling ling, adeline and joanne.

If not for the counselling course that we took together, I might never have known Lilian in NIE! Here's one with her.

With Kenny. Thanks to him, CCS lessons were less boring...haha!

With dear Lishan, my fellow maths pal. ;) I won't forget the days when we would crack our heads together over all those algebra and calculus sums, trust me. :P

After seeing all these photos, don't you think I am a little tall? :P Haha

Hallelujah!

It is indeed another blessed day. After about a month of fervent prayer by Christians from all over the world, 2 Korean hostages were released by the Taliban unconditionally as a 'gesture of goodwill'. Thank God for His answers to our prayers and His faithfulness. Of course, the prayers do not just end there, there are still 18 hostages that are still held captive and they still need our prayers. Brothers and sisters, let's continue to pray for them. Here are some suggestions that I got from Josh Harris's blog:

"Today a friend [of Josh Harris] in Afghanistan passed on some suggestions for prayer, so I post them here for anyone who wants to join this brother and Christians around the world in praying to our great God. He writes:

- Join our Korean brothers and sisters in asking that above all, God will be honored and glorified through what has already happened and all that will take place over the coming days. Ask for a revival in this land as well as in Korea. (Phil 1:18-21)

- Pray for strength, perseverance, and faith for those in captivity. Pray that their faith may not waver. Pray for boldness, joy, and patience. (Ephesians 3:14-20)

- Many, if not all, of those being held are suffering from health problems. Two of the young ladies are very sick and will likely die soon if they don't get medical treatment. Pray that God will heal them and sustain them. Those of you who have visited Afghanistan before know how easy it is to get sick even when you drink clean water and eat good food. Knowing that these brothers and sisters have likely not had clean drinking water at all and likely don't have much food or any medicine, I imagine most of them are suffering greatly.

- These hostages have unexpected access to a very dark group of people that have likely never been around true believers. I'm sure they are praying, singing, and worshiping as often as possible. Ask that their testimony will soften the hearts and touch the lives of their captors. May they know that there is something incredibly different about the people they are holding.

- Pray that the Holy Spirit will protect each captive's mind and spirit during this ordeal. As they are faced with day after day of fear, uncertainty, and death, pray that this won't have a lasting effect on their hearts and minds."

Love 1

Good morning, everyone! I am feeling really happy today. So thankful for the National Day holidays....it has given me a time to clear off my markings and also to meet up with dear friends. And not to mention, I felt that this year's NDP parade was different and really good. I felt that the opera singers in the show were good! Thank God for blessing Singapore with good leadership. It is with good leadership that Singapore is able to advance and prosper as a world-class nation.
Last Saturday, Pei Hwa had its first p1/p2 concert in 15 years. It was a rather big event in school and every p1/p2 kid was dolled up including the kids in my class -Love 1. The kids were really cute lar....shall show you all some pictures so you will know what I mean... :P

These are some of the boys... See Yu looks terribly frightened...maybe it's coz of Miss Teo. Haha!

The one smiling radiantly is Seong Woo. As you can see, they are not that terribly scared of Miss Teo after all...

Grace, Byron and Charity are 3 of my most obedient children in class. They never fail to sit quietly and put their finger on their lips after they finish their work. Good children! =)

Irene and Nicole look so happy together.

This is Andre. One of the famous personalities in my class. He looks really innocent and adorable here but don't be fooled! His classmates love him because he is cute. You know those eyes of puss in boots in Shrek? He always gives me those eyes when I am angry with him or scold him for doing something wrong. Smart boy.

This is Miss Teo with the whole of Love 1. They are all decked in their 'chick' suit and ready to perform! Mdm Tan, their chinese teacher is on the left. She came up with the costume idea and the whole performance item. Creative, ain't she?

2 weeks earlier, they had Racial Harmony Day. Seong Woo (the korean kid in my class) wore his korean suit and really stood out! Some of the other kids wore their ethnic costumes as well and looked fabulous too. :)

No, your eyes are not giving you problems. Something is wrong with my camera. =( Seong woo is the one who is pretty in pink. =) I feel that Christopher (the one in dark blue) is very photogenic! He never fails to put on that winning smile of his for every picture I take.
Presenting the gals.... =P

Thank You, God.
"13For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. 14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

random thoughts

As I continue to stay awake at this insane hour, setting my SA paper, many thoughts are running through my mind.

- Korean hostages
- Jim Elliot
- Kids in Love 1
- p1/p2 concert this saturday

As you can see, it is not a good idea to have so many distracting thoughts while setting a paper. So, I have decided to blog.

Korean Hostages
The taliban have set a new deadline for their release which is this afternoon. Another Korean from the group has been killed. Time is tight. People are weary, drained by this whole episode. Talks are going nowhere. The remaining 21 hostages might lose their lives any minute in the hands of these desperate Taliban militants.

Yet in the midst of all these pressing circumstances is a great lesson on faith in the Lord.

Do we trust that God is soveriegn even when the Talibans are seemingly having the upper hand at the moment? Do we believe that God has a purpose out of this whole episode? Though it is heart wrenching to know that the hostages might lose their lives at any moment, it is comforting and uplifting to know that each and every one of the 22 Korean Christians has been granted eternal life because of their faith in Jesus Christ way before this incident even happened. That is why I said that Jesus has already conquered all.

God has a plan for everything. He uses everything for a purpose -- even the deaths of people. I don't know if you guys know about the great missionary Jim Elliot but God had used his death to bring many more people to Christ. Jim Elliot had a heart for the unsaved, especially those who were at the far ends of the earth. He went to Huaorani (Equador) in 1956 and what seemingly had been a friendly meeting initially resulted in Jim being speared to death by the people there. He left behind a wife and a daughter. They were devastated.

Several years after her husband's death, Elisabeth Elliot returned to Huaorani to live with the people and spread the gospel to them - this time armed with a better understanding of their culture. Needless to say, many were saved.

God had healed and comforted Elisabeth so much that she was able to forgive the people who killed her husband. And in doing so, she had become a much more effective witness of God's grace and love which led many of the people in Huaorani to believe.

God has a purpose for everything.
He's got everything under control.
The wind and the rain at His command.
The stars and the planet are in His hand.
You and I are a part of His plan,
He's got everything under control.
